In their own words — the difference a little help can make, told by the people who’ve lived it.
The food pantry helped our family in a pinch when the groceries just didn’t stretch far enough. It kept food in our bellies. I appreciate the kindness and the non-judgmental volunteers who help.

Being between paychecks, the food pantry helps us make it.

IVFC helped me write a professional resume, gave me clothing vouchers for job applications and interviews, and provided bus tokens so I could get to and from those interviews. One of the biggest hurdles I faced was not having a valid ID, which you need to apply for almost any job. They helped me navigate that process, which was a crucial step toward getting hired. Their support didn’t stop at practical resources — they offered encouragement and guidance the whole way, and made me feel supported and hopeful. I am now in a much better position and feel more confident going after opportunities.

When you think of the holidays, you think of family. The coalition IS our family. Shelby saw my plea on Facebook and invited us in to see how they could help, and we felt immediately welcomed. She goes out of her way to find us resources, even ones that aren’t offered here. Jenny has great advice and tips for how to stretch a voucher. We stand around talking about recipes we can make with what’s in the pantry. For a moment we forget that we are here because we need help, and we feel almost at home.
Most places miss the humanity part when they help. Things like socks and feminine hygiene are rare when people think about donations, and this place doesn’t forget them. When food benefits were at risk, they stepped up and found a way to make sure people were fed and the holidays stayed happy. I am proud to be part of a community this strong. Thank you for existing, thank you to every heart that helps, and thank you to everyone who funds this work.
