Food Pantry
Nobody in the Illinois Valley should have to choose between paying a bill and eating. Our pantry is open to anyone in the valley who needs it. We follow food bank income guidelines, but we don't ask for proof, paperwork, or ID. If you tell us you need food, we will help you.
Shopping hours:
Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 12:00 to 4:30pm.
Can't make those hours? To-go bags are available Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, while supplies last. Just come to the front desk. We also keep ready-to-eat options on hand for anyone without a kitchen or a way to cook, because food you cannot prepare is not really food.
Shop for what your family actually eats.
Our pantry is shopping-style, which means you walk through and choose your own food rather than receiving a pre-packed box. Thanks to added refrigeration and freezer capacity, that now regularly includes fresh produce, meat, dairy, and frozen items alongside shelf-stable staples. Choice matters. It cuts waste, it respects the fact that you know your household best, and it preserves dignity.
A growing need, met together.
Our pantry now serves 600 to 700 households every month, roughly twenty times what it served two years ago. That growth reflects real pressure on our neighbors, including reductions to SNAP benefits and the closure of the valley's largest pantry.
When that pantry closed, IVFC and the remaining valley pantries worked together to absorb the need. We have also earned a "1A" pantry designation, which improves our priority for food bank allocations and means more and better food reaching valley families.
Made possible by this community.
Our pantry runs on a partnership with the Josephine County Food Bank, alongside the generous donations of community members and our own board, and the volunteers who sort, stock, and staff the pantry every week. If you would like to help, we would love to hear from you.
