A pillar of support in the Illinois Valley
The Illinois Valley Family Coalition has supported the Illinois Valley community of Southern Oregon since its establishment in 1992 — evolving continuously to meet the needs of our neighbors.
More than three decades of community
Initially established as a response to the challenges faced by low-income, rurally isolated families, IVFC has grown to become a comprehensive resource center providing prevention, education, advocacy, and referral services. Located in Cave Junction, IVFC serves residents across the Illinois Valley — including O’Brien, Takilma, Kerby, and Selma — an estimated population of 18,000 people.
Over more than three decades, IVFC has directly impacted thousands of lives; in 2025 alone, the Coalition provided more than 5,800 services to community members — food, hygiene supplies, transportation and ID assistance, public-benefits navigation, and referrals.
Looking forward, IVFC is dedicated to bolstering its role as a vital resource hub for the Illinois Valley — with a steadfast commitment to meeting the ever-changing needs of our residents and supporting our community partners.

A short history of the Illinois Valley
The Illinois Valley is a rural corner of southern Oregon’s Josephine County — about 18,000 people across five close-knit communities: Cave Junction, Kerby, Selma, O’Brien, and Takilma — ringed by the Siskiyou Mountains, the wild and scenic Illinois River, and the Oregon Caves. It is beautiful, remote, and one of the lowest-income areas in the state.
IVFC was founded in 1992 to answer a hard question: when a neighbor here runs out of options, where do they go? For more than three decades, the answer has been us.
Since 1992, IVFC has grown from a small volunteer effort into the valley’s central Resource Center — food boxes, hygiene and warm showers, ID and birth-certificate help, transportation and benefits navigation, play groups, and referrals — hosting partner agencies under one roof. In 2025 alone we provided more than 5,800 services to neighbors, and when the valley’s evening food pantry closed, we opened our doors to keep it going.
